What Are the Uses of Fenugreek for Hair?

The use of fenugreek for hair is a popular practice in many cultures of the world. This herb is often used to naturally condition and moisturize the hair and treat a variety of scalp issues. It is widely believed that the regular use of fenugreek helps to prevent hair loss. If the hair has already started to become thin, fenugreek may promote the growth of new hair, effectively reversing the balding process. While most people can safely use this herbal supplement, there are possible side effects of fenugreek, including gastrointestinal disturbances, respiratory concerns, and allergic reactions.

To use fenugreek as a hair conditioner, the powdered form of the herb is mixed with just enough water to form a thick paste. This paste is then left on the hair for half an hour or so before being rinsed out. This use of fenugreek for hair is most beneficial as an occasional moisture treatment, as daily use can leave a residue that tends to dull the hair.

Fenugreek can also be used as a treatment for dry scalp, dandruff, and seborrheic dermatitis. The mixture is created the same as for hair conditioning purposes, but the paste is applied directly to the scalp. Those with severe scalp issues may wish to leave this paste on the scalp for a couple of hours before rinsing.

One of the most popular uses of fenugreek for hair is to prevent or reverse baldness. The proteins found in this herb are believed to strengthen the hair and promote hair growth. When used for this purpose, powdered fenugreek seeds are typically mixed with coconut oil to form a paste that is then massaged into the scalp. Some people may notice results within a few days, but it typically takes several weeks to notice new hair growth.

In the majority of cases, using fenugreek for hair care is completely safe, although a doctor should be consulted if any negative symptoms begin after using this product. Some things to watch out for include nausea, diarrhea, or stomach discomfort. Coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath may occasionally occur when using this herb. Possible signs of a severe and potentially fatal allergic reaction include chest pain, facial swelling, and difficulty breathing or swallowing.

I've been using it, and it has helped my hair. And it gave me a sex drive I never had. It also stopped stomach pains because I used to get a lot of gas or upset stomach in general.

It had all these great benefits and my initial concern was just growing my hair.

@literally-- I think it works, it takes a while though so you have to be persistent with it. It also depends on how much you're taking. The supplements work better than the tea, especially if you're trying to grow out new hair.

Even though it's natural, it can have side effects. I was taking fenugreek regularly for a while but I started experiencing dizziness and I know it was the fenugreek because I wasn't taking anything else.

So I've taken a break from it now, although I would like to try it again in the future. I do recommend it, but if you have side effects or if you're taking medicines or anything, you better ask your doctor.

@literally45-- My sister has been taking fenugreek supplements for her hair and it's really working. She could never get her hair to grow before this and it has been growing really nicely for the past few months. There is definitely a difference.

It's a natural supplement too so you really can't go wrong with it. I've also heard that it helps enlarge the breasts and nursing mothers use it to increase breast milk.

I'm going to start taking these for my hair too. I love long hair.

I've heard of fenugreek for breast enlargement but not for hair growth. Has anyone tried it for their hair?
