Skin bleaching products are used by many people in an attempt to lighten the areas of the skin that are pigmented because of medicines, exposure to the sun or hyperpigmentation. Any brown spots, freckles or melasma formed on the skin can raises one's desire for one of the different types of skin bleaching products that can produce a fairer and more luminous complexion. The most common types of skin bleaching gel for skin whitening or skin lightening are skin whitening cream, skin lightening lotion and cosmetic whiteners. Ingredients for the products of each type include hydroquinone, kojic acid and mandelic acid. Mercury is often used in these types of products as well.

Bleaching is considered by many to be the least invasive method for skin lightening, but all types of bleaching gels are popular among users. Bleaching creams for the skin are a favorite of many because they are easy to use. Lotions for skin bleaching are another commonly used method for skin lightening. Whichever type of skin bleaching gel is chosen, the gentlest and most effective ingredients include gigawhite, hyaluronic acid and alpha arbutin. If the ingredients include biowhite or sepiwhite instead of gigawhite, they have similar functions.

There is a wide variety of skin bleaching gel products available in department stores, pharmacies and online. Products that contain mild, plant-based ingredients have been clinically proven to be beneficial for the skin. For all the different types of skin bleaching gel available, the directions will tell users whether the product is adaptable with their skin type. Following a bleaching session, moisturizing of the skin aids in avoiding irritation, or moisturizer can be added to the product before application to keep the skin smooth. In addition, applying the bleaching gel only on the dark spot or desired area can keep it from affecting other areas of the skin.

Homemade skin bleaching options are available as well. Yogurt, cornmeal, toothpaste and lemons can be used as inexpensive and harmless options for skin lightening. Many people use milk powders to improve their complexion.

Although natural, homemade ingredients cannot have a drastic effect on skin color, they are much safer than commercial skin bleaching gels with chemicals. For example, vitamin C powder can be mixed with pure aloe vera gel to make a skin lightening product that's natural, safe and beneficial. Vitamin C helps lighten and brighten skin when used regularly. Those without vitamin C powder can use lemon juice. The same goes for papaya pulp which has enzymes that help lighten skin. It can be used as a mask on the face.

Some commercial bleaching gels containing only exfoliating ingredients like glycolic or salicylic acid may be okay too. But hydroquinone gel should be avoided. This gel is believed to increase the risk of skin cancer and it can permanently discolor skin if used for a long time.

@discographer-- Gel may be easy to apply and spread and usually absorbs more easily than cream. But when it comes to skin bleaching products, I think what's more important is the ingredients. Regardless of whether you use a gel or a cream make sure that the ingredients are both effective and safe. Some people prefer gel simply because they like the texture and absorbency better. I'm one of those people.

And since you are looking for something to use on your underarms, you might want to look for a skin bleaching gel that is made specifically for underarms.

Is there an advantage to using a skin bleaching gel rather than a cream?

I plan on using a skin bleaching product on my underarms because the skin in this area is very dark. Should I use a cream or a gel?
